In this study, we employed a synthetic mitochondrial superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) mimic MnTBAP to investigate the role of mitochondrial oxidative stress in modulating the sodium transporters in obstructive kidney disease.
SOD-2 was investigated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) to ascertain if specific genotypes have any protective influences in the pathogenic mechanisms in diabetes and/or in several different complications, including retinopathy, nephropathy and diabetic controls compared to normal healthy controls.
Under HG, there was a twofold increase in the expression of CAT, CuZnSOD, and GPX mRNA in the patients without complications and the control subjects versus patients with nephropathy (P < 0.0001), and MnSOD did not change in any of the groups.
