In this study, an animal model of TNBC was used to determine whether the expression of the cell membrane protease MT1-MMP in cancer cells was associated with radiation-stimulated development of lung metastases.
Knocking down KLF8 expression inhibited the breast cancer cell invasion both in vitro and in vivo as well as the lung metastasis in mice, which could be rescued by ectopic expression of MMP14.
By employing surgical orthotopic implantation of LNCaP cells stably expressing MT1-GFP into the prostate gland of immunodeficient mice, we demonstrated that MT1-MMP promotes lymph node and lung metastasis of prostate cancer cells.
