The ability of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) to regulate NF-κB signaling and promote tumor progression was investigated in both established and primary high-grade glioma tumor lines using a three-dimensional (3-D) collagen invasion assay.
Taken together, our results provide evidence that culture-expansion of hMSCs in the presence of TNF-α triggers neural gene expression and functional capacities, which could improve the use of hMSCs in the treatment of neurological disorders including malignant gliomas.
Intratumoral or intrathecal injection of LAK cells transfected with the TNF-alpha gene may be useful for the treatment of patients with malignant gliomas.
