The MetAPs contribute to the cotranslational control of proteins as they determine their half life (N-terminal end rule) and facilitate further modifications such as acetylation and others.Mtb (and M. bovis) possess two MetAP isoforms, MetAP1a and MetAP1c, encoded by the mapA and mapB genes, respectively.
Finally, rBmMetAP1 was able to provide considerable protection to mice against a B. microti challenge infection based on a reduction in peak parasitemia levels and earlier clearance of the parasite as compared with control mice.
Taken together, these results suggest that rBmMetAP1 confers significant protection against experimental B. microti infection and might be considered a potential vaccine target against human babesiosis.
Anti-MAP-1 (CSP-based) antibodies blocked the invasion of HepG2 liver cells by P. falciparum sporozoites (highest, 95.16% in HLA-A2 C57BL/6; lowest, 11.21% in BALB/c).
Our findings identify RASSF1A and MAP-1 as important components between death receptors and the apoptotic machinery and reveal a potential link between tumor suppression and death receptor signaling.
