In an analysis of stool samples from 3 independent studies of 332 patients with IBD, we associated levels of methylation at 2 genes (BMP3 and VAV3), relative to level of methylation at ZDHHC1, with detection of CRC and HGD.
In this paper, we describe the recent advances in non-invasive CRC screening and more specifically in molecular assays for aberrantly methylated BMP3 and NDRG4 promoter regions.
Four genes specifically methylated in colorectal cancer [bone morphogenetic protein 3 (BMP3), EYA2, aristaless-like homeobox-4 (ALX4), and vimentin] were selected from 41 candidate genes and evaluated on 74 cancers, 62 adenomas, and 70 normal epithelia.
