Both SOD2 polymorphisms (rs2758339, rs5746136) showed significant association with the risk of gastric cancer, under assumption that the variant alleles act as dominant alleles.
Importantly, patient-derived tissue microarrays and bioinformatics interrogation of clinical datasets indicated that upregulated expression of TLR2 and SOD2 were significantly correlated in human GC, and the TLR2-SOD2 axis was associated with multiple clinical parameters of advanced stage disease, including distant metastasis, microvascular invasion and stage, as well as poor survival.
Our findings suggest that polymorphism of the SOD2T5482C may be closely associated with an increased susceptibility to the development and differentiation of gastric cancer in the Korean population.
This suggests that the failure of Mn-SOD mRNA induction by oxidative stress in peripheral lymphocytes may be involved in the development of gastric cancer and may be of value in predicting the future occurrence of gastric cancer.
