Present data demonstrate that rs10757278 and rs1333049 on chromosome 9p21.3 are significantly associated with increased risk of AAA in the Chinese population and emphasize the need to further study the role of these markers in AAA.
Our findings validated the strong association of the chromosome 9p21.3 SNPs rs10757278 and rs1333049 with AAA and demonstrated the upregulation of LINE-1 elements at the site of AAA.
Using meta-analysis to combine the findings of both cohorts, we found a significant association between rs10757278-G and the presence of AAA (OR (95%CI) 1.38 (1.04-1.82) P=0.03), an effect size completely consistent with that originally reported. rs10757278 was not significantly associated with altered AAA growth rate in either cohort.
Here we report that rs10757278-G is associated with, in addition to CAD, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA; odds ratio (OR) = 1.31, P = 1.2 x 10(-12)) and intracranial aneurysm (OR = 1.29, P = 2.5 x 10(-6)), but not with T2D.
