This study investigated the role of IL-1β-511 (rs16944), TLR4-896 (rs4986790) and TNF-α-308 (rs1800629) polymorphisms in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among an endogamous Northern Indian population.
The results of our study demonstrated that the G allele of the Asp299Gly polymorphism of the TLR4 gene is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes patients.
In contrast, the 299Gly allele and the 399Ile allele from the Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile TLR4 gene polymorphisms, respectively, were associated with protection of T2DM.
