Therefore, we examined whether the 5-HTTLPR gene and 5-HT1B gene G861C polymorphism are susceptibility factors for a specific subtype of alcoholism, antisocial alcoholism in Han Chinese in Taiwan.
Consequently, genes encoding serotonin (5-HT) receptors are candidates for genetic studies of both disorders. found evidence for linkage of antisocial alcoholism to HTR1B (the locus encoding the 5-HT1B receptor) in both Finns and Southwestern American Indians, and of allelic association of a G861C polymorphism at that locus with antisocial alcoholism in Finns.
In the Southwestern American Indian tribe, significant sib pair linkage of antisocial alcoholism to HTR1B G861C (P=.01) was again observed, and there was also significant linkage to D6S284 (P=.01).
