Our results showed a close correlation between the 82G/S polymorphism and the susceptibility to IS, suggesting the 82G/S polymorphism may be used as a genetic marker for the prediction of stroke occurrence in high risk subjects.
The current meta-analysis suggests that the RAGE Gly82Ser polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of CAD and IS, especially in the Chinese population.
Further stratification by IS subtypes revealed that the presence of the TT genotype of the RAGE rs2070600 variant confers a higher risk of the large artery atherosclerosis subtype of IS (P = 0.036).
