Numerous potential DNA biomarkers such as hypermethylations of the promoters and mutations in K-ras, p53, and protein biomarkers; carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), CYFRA21-1, plasma kallikrein B1 (KLKB1), Neuron-specific enolase, etc. have been discovered as lung cancer biomarkers.
To investigate the value of Ubiquitin specific peptidase 8 (USP8), Chitinase 3-like 1 (YKL40), Heat shock protein 90a (HSP90α), glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), neuron specific enolase (NSE) and cytokeratin fragment antiogen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and serum for diagnosis in patients with peripheral lung cancer.
Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that patients' age (odds ratio = 1.024, p < 0.001), concentrations of neuron-specific enolase (odds ratio = 1.212, p = 0.004), and histopathological types (odds ratio = 0.995, p = 0.001) were the independent risk factors for bone metastases in patients with lung cancer.
Detecting CTCs and tumor cells in BALF had similar areas under curves (AUC =0.871 and 0.963, respectively; P>0.05) in discriminating benign lesions from lung cancer (sensitivity 83.8% and 92.6%, specificity 86.5% and 99.9%, respectively), both of which were larger than those of NSE, CEA, and CA125 (AUC =0.564, 0.512 and 0.554, respectively; all P<0.05).
Then, the advancements of designing biosensors for sensitive, stable, and selective identification of lung cancer biomarkers are systematically provided, with a specific focus on the main clinical biomarkers such as neuron-specific enolase (NSE), cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA 21-1).
Lung cancer marker genes, including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA), pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRB), cytokeratin fragment 21-1 (Cyfra21-1) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE), were analyzed in patients with lung cancer.
Taken together, these results suggest that p19(ras) is a novel regulator to suppress cell proliferation in lung cancer through the interaction with NSE.
CEA and NSE are frequently- used lung cancer markers in clinical trials, CRP, LDH and Cyfra21-1 have significant meaning in lung cancer, basis on CEA and NSE we set up three GEP models-GEP 1(CEA, NSE, Cyfra21-1), GEP2 (CEA, NSE, LDH), GEP3 (CEA, NSE, CRP).
In this review, we discuss the molecular features, functions, and clinical relevance of the conventional serum biomarkers for lung cancer, including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin 19 fragment 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1), tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), sialyl Lewisx (sLex), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125), squamous cell carcinoma-related antigen (SCC-Ag), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (proGRP), aiming to provide a snapshot of the current landscape and their potential combined utility in the diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer.
The ROC curve analyses showed that the diagnostic value of TK1 combined with CEA, CYFRA21-1 and NSE in lung cancer was significantly higher than that of each biomarker alone (all P<0.0001).
Assay of multiple serum tumor markers such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen (CYFRA21-1), and neuron specific enolase (NSE), is important for the early diagnosis of lung cancer.
As proof of principle, we use oriented immobilization of pyruvate kinase (PK) and luciferase (Luc) on silica NPs to achieve rapid and sensitive detection of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), a clinically relevant biomarker for multiple diseases ranging from acute brain injuries to lung cancer.
Identifying the Best Marker Combination in CEA, CA125, CY211, NSE, and SCC for Lung Cancer Screening by Combining ROC Curve and Logistic Regression Analyses: Is It Feasible?
B(a)P administered groups showed increased levels of serum pathological markers CEA, NSE along with reduced final body weight as well as decreased tissue enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants activities, whereas VA treatment (200mg/kg/b.wt) along with B(a)P showed significantly reverted the above changes, which proves as prominent anticancer effects in experimentally induced lung cancer.
BsAbCENS bound with CEA and NSE on the surface of human lung cancer cells and produced a higher signal intensity than MRI alone for the diagnosis of patients with lung cancer.
