Stromal myofibroblasts surrounding colon adenocarcinomas are an important source of VEGF and COX-2 production, while AP-1 and NF-kappaB transcription factors are activated and EGF-R is expressed in these cells and associated with COX-2 and VEGF production.
Expression of both bcl-2 and cox-2 were increased in non-dysplastic Barrett's (p = 0.0077, p = 0.0037), intraepithelial neoplasia (p = 0.0053, p = 0.0220) and adenocarcinoma (p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001) compared to squamous epithelium or reflux-esophagitis.
The aim of our study was to test the hypothesis that higher levels of COX-2 expression are prognostically related to poor clinico-pathologic features in adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus.
Therefore, the aim of the present study was: 1) to analyse the expression of COX-2 in the biopsies obtained from BE; 2) to compare the effect of NO-ASA with that of ASA on proliferation rate in Barrett''s adenocarcinoma cell line (OE-33 cells); 3) to determine the effect of both compounds on the apoptosis rate using FACS analysis and expression of 32-kDa procaspase-3 and active proapoptotic 20-kDa caspase-3 in OE-33 cell line.
We have previously described an association between colorectal adenomas and SNP V102V in PTGS2 and have now confirmed this association for colorectal adenocarcinomas.
Keratins 8, 19, and 20 as well as carbonic anhydrases (II, IV, VII) showed side specific expression and were downregulated in left sided tumours whereas teratocarcinoma growth factor and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) were upregulated in left sided adenocarcinomas.
In the present study, we found elevated expression of COX-2 and FP receptor colocalized together within the neoplastic epithelial cells of endometrial adenocarcinomas.
We therefore investigated a possible relationship between cytoplasmic PLA2 and COX-2 overexpression in stromal cells, angiogenesis and microsatellite instability in 48 human colorectal adenocarcinomas.
After stratification by disease stage or histologic subtype, the prognostic significance of high total COX-2 mRNA expression was still apparent in both stage I and stage II-IV and in both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma (p < or = 0.01 for all).
Cyclooxygenase-2 induces EP1- and HER-2/Neu-dependent vascular endothelial growth factor-C up-regulation: a novel mechanism of lymphangiogenesis in lung adenocarcinoma.
Higher Cox-2 expression might be associated with tumor progression and worse prognosis through EGFR signaling interaction in Stage I bronchial adenocarcinomas.
We hypothesized that acid-induced activation of the MAPK pathways mediates an increase in COX-2 expression in Barrett's esophagus, and we tested this hypothesis in a Barrett's-associated adenocarcinoma cell line (SEG-1).
