The binding activities of alpha 1-protease inhibitor and alpha 2-macroglobulin in asthmatic patients with the M phenotype for the alpha 1-protease inhibitor differed in their relationship to the values in control subjects with the same phenotype [less alpha 1-protease inhibitor for asthmatics (35.1 +/- 1.8) than for controls (42.9 +/- 2.0 kU/L) (P < 0.001); more alpha 2-macroglobulin for asthmatics (6.9 +/- 0.3) than for control subjects (5.9 +/- 0.4 kU/L) (P < 0.03)].
I review two examples of such challenges: the cloning of GPR154 (GPRA) and AAA1 on chromosome 7p14 at a susceptibility locus for atopy and asthma, and the study of HLA-Cw6, CCHCR1 (HCR) and CDSN on chromosome 6p21 at PSORS1, the major susceptibility locus for psoriasis.
The present review also makes a comment on the role of arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase, an important enzyme involved in the conversion of serotonin to melatonin, in asthma pathogenesis.
These findings suggest that ABCA1 expressed by vascular endothelial cells and alveolar macrophages may play important roles in attenuating the severity of neutrophilic airway inflammation in asthma.
Taken together, these data implicated that ABCA1 suppressed PDGF-induced proliferation, migration, and contraction in rat ASMCs at least partly through TLR2/NF-κB/NFATc1 signaling, which might offer hope for the future treatment of airway remodeling in asthma.
Gene expression data demonstrate that ABC transporters are variably expressed in epithelial cells from different airway generations, regulated by cigarette smoke exposure (ABCA13, ABCB6, ABCC1, and ABCC3), and differentially expressed in individuals with COPD and asthma (ABCA13, ABCC1, ABCC2, ABCC9).

Participants reaching the broadest IgE sensitization stage (ie, ABC) had significantly higher risk of mite-related AR and asthma than unsensitized participants.

To evaluate whether SNPs (n = 15) in ten candidate genes (ADRB2, ADH5, ARGI, CRHR1, STIP1, LTA4H, LTC4S, ALOX5, ABCC1 and OATP2B1) are associated with asthma in Jordanian population of Arab descent.

Interview and medical-record data of 11,659 nondiabetic, non-asthmatic women were analyzed to evaluate the relationship between ABO and Rh blood groups and adverse outcomes of pregnancy.
Our findings suggest that protective effects of endotoxin exposure on asthma may vary depending upon the presence or absence of a polymorphism in ACAA1.
It has been established that PAI-1 4G allele may be a genetic risk factor for childhood asthma but ACE gene I/D polymorphisms do not play a role in the development of asthma in the sample of Turkish children.
