Association of the blood serum cytokines' rate and lymphocytes' apoptosis with polymorphic variants of the BCL-2 (rs17759659), CTLA-4 (rs231775) and APO-1÷FAS (rs2234767) genes in patients with nodular goiters in autoimmune thyroiditis and thyroid adenoma.
Altogether, we examined 96 cases, including 69 PTCs, 19 follicular adenomas, and eight nontoxic nodular goiters for BRAF; 60 of these samples were also examined for RET/PTC rearrangements.
We demonstrated that lncRNA CASC2 expression was significantly downregulated in tumor tissues and plasma samples in patients with PTC compared with those in nodular goiters (P< 0.05).

RT-PCR analyses of c-Kit and immunohistochemical staining of c-Kit, Flk-1, and Flk-2 were performed in archived samples of 18 papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), 9 follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), 12 follicular adenoma (FA), and 7 nodular goiter (NG) samples.
The results of FQ-PCR showed that the medians of the log (ZCCHC12 RNA/GAPDH RNA) in PTC and NG were 0.73 and -1.68, respectively, and the difference between them was significant (P < 0.05).
We investigated the expression profile of plasma GAS8-AS1 in 97 patients with PTC and 39 patients with nodular goiter by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.
With a cutoff value of 8.71 for relative gene expression, HMGA2 was positive in 19 (16.4%) of 116 nodular goiter, 1 (2.6%) of 39 Hashimoto thyroiditis, 9 (28.1%) of 32 follicular adenoma, 0 (0%) of 5 Hurthle cell adenoma, 32 (88.9%) of 36 papillary carcinoma, and 3 (100%) of 3 follicular carcinoma samples.
The results were evaluated against the postoperative histopathologic diagnosis or definitive cytologic diagnosis in cases of nodular goiter and Hashimoto thyroiditis.
Cytoplasmic MT-I/II expression was significantly higher in GD (mean IRS 9.24±2.36) than in NG (mean IRS 7.13±2.51; p=0.0006) and correlated positively with Ki-67 antigen expression (r=0.28; p=0.0165).
Haplotypes AT (rs3024997 and rs3025040) and GTA (rs10434, rs3025040, and rs3024997) showed a lower risk for NG (P <0.01 and P <0.05, respectively), while haplotypes GTT (rs833070, rs3025040, and rs3024997) and GGGT (rs833070, rs10434, rs3024997, and rs3025040) predicted the risk of progression to NG (both P <0.05).
