The serum IL6 {median (IQRs), 9.42(10.92) vs. 5.2(5.34) pg/ml; P=0.001}, IL8 {12.37(10.92) vs. 5.63(5.52) pg/ml; P<0.001}, IL10 {8.33(8.3) vs. 2.05(1.37) pg/ml; P=0.001} and TNFα {6.14(8.95) vs. 3.61(3.58) pg/ml; P<0.001} were also increased in WD patients compared to controls.
In 56 patients with WD (29 men; 26 with the hepatic form, 22 with the neurologic form, and eight asymptomatic; mean age 38.5 ± 12 years), total serum antioxidant capacity (TAC) and inflammatory parameters (hs-CRP, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α) were analyzed and related to the clinical manifestation, and mutations of the ATP7B gene.
We analyzed the clinical manifestations of WND in relationship to polymorphisms within genes for interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RN intron 2 VNTR polymorphism), interleukin-1α (IL1A G4845T), IL-1β (IL1B C-511T), IL-6 (IL6 G-174C), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF G-308A) in a total sample of 332 patients.
