Disease activity, endoscopic and histologic score, ex vivo barrier permeability, expression of inflammatory cytokines (transforming growth factor-β, tumor necrosis factor α, Interleukin-6, Interleukin-8), and junctional proteins (ZO-1, claudin-1, occludin) were assessed before and after SNS to observe the impact of SNS other than for incontinence.
