Serum CCN2 concentrations were, respectively, 4.0- or 4.9-fold higher in patients with CHB or active liver cirrhosis as compared to healthy individuals (P < 0.01).
To expand the results to other aetiologies, a separate cohort of CLD patients (n = 129) was evaluated, showing higher serum CTGF than healthy controls and again an association with advanced stages of liver cirrhosis (Child B and C).
