Alpha-Delta platelet storage pool deficiency (alphadelta SPD) is a rare inherited bleeding disorder affecting both males and females, occurring in families, as well as sporadically.
Platelet aggregation is commonly used to investigate patients with possible dense granule storage pool deficiency (delta SPD), but recent studies have shown that this investigation is not specific or sensitive for this disorder.
The percentage of the total platelet population recovered in these various fractions in 5 patients with congenital storage pool deficiency who are deficient only in dense granules (delta-SPD) was similar to that observed in 8 normal subjects.
