Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare but fatal cause of pulmonary hypertension reported to be linked to mutations of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 alpha kinase 4 (EIF2AK4), also known as general control nonderepressible 2 kinase (GCN2).
In addition to EIF2AK4, which has been already suggested to be associated with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, we identified the novel candidate genes ATP13A3, CD248, EFCAB4B, involved in lung vascular remodeling that represent reliable drivers contributing to the disease according to their biological functions/inheritance patterns.
Notably, EIF2AK4 gene was also involved in the panel, which allowed to distinguish pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD)/pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis (PCH) patients from idiopathic PAH (IPAH).
