The EGFR protein level had no association with the survival of the patient's cohort studied, and a higher level of HIF-1α protein associated only with a trend to significance (multivariate Cox's regression analysis) to a poor prognosis in STS patients (RR = 1.9, <i>p</i> = 0.09).
Exposure of STS cell lines to hypoxic conditions gave rise to upregulation of Hypoxia Inducible Factor (HIF) 1α protein levels and increased mRNA expression of HIF1 target genes CA9 and VEGFA.
