To evaluate the mode of inheritance in this familial case of APS and SLE and the possible association of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) -675 4G/5G and PAI-2 Ser(413)/Cys polymorphisms.
The MTHFR-677TT was found in 22.0%, 15.1% and 13.0%, and the PAI-1 (4G/4G) in 27.5%, 22.8% and 23.5% of APS, non-APS patients and normal controls, respectively.
There was a trend toward higher PAI-1 antigen and activity levels in APS patients and controls with the 4G/4G genotype, but this did not reach statistical significance.
