We previously showed a protective role of the KIR2DL3 gene for the development of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), and a detrimental role of the KIR ligand groups, HLA-A-Bw4 and HLA-C2.
These results suggest a detrimental role of HLA-A-Bw4 and HLA-C2 groups, which are associated with the development of CHB, and a protective role of KIR2DL3.
We found that inhibitory receptor KIR2DL1 in combination with HLA-C2 ligand confers susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B (CHB), whereas inhibitory receptor KIR2DL3 or KIR2DL3 homozygote in the presence of HLA-C1C1 genotype shows protection against CHB.
