Deregulated expression of the paralogous protein MYCN drives the development of neuronal and neuroendocrine tumours and is often associated with a particularly poor prognosis3.
Enhanced and deregulated expression of N-MYC, a member of the MYC family of transcription factors, drives the development of multiple tumors, including tumors of the nervous and hematologic systems and neuroendocrine tumors in other organs.
Furthermore, given the therapeutic resistance of neuroendocrine tumors such as small-cell lung cancer and neuroblastoma, the roles of N-Myc in difficult-to-treat tumors are discussed.
