Our results highlight the potential of HER-2÷neu as supplementary marker useful for the stratification of PTC in low-risk and high-risk histological groups, along with the well-known clinicopathological prognostic factors.
Concomitant high expression of ERα36, EGFR and HER2 was strongly associated with aggressive behaviors including extrathyroidal extension (ETE), lymph node metastasis (LNM) and high TNM stage in PTCs (P < 0.001).
To clarify the significance of KIT, EGFR, and HER-2 in undifferentiated thyroid carcinoma (UTC), the expression of these receptors and tyrosine phosphorylation was examined immunohistochemically in resected cases of UTC and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).
The present demonstration of positive c-erbB-2 immunostaining in papillary thyroid carcinomas is contradictory to previous findings on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded material, and emphasises the importance of tissue quality for c-erbB-2 protein detection.
