In conditions with acquired nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (eg, lithium treatment, hypokalemia, postobstructive polyuria), AQP2 expression and targeting have been found to be markedly reduced, providing an explanation for the polyuria and the inability to concentrate urine associated with these conditions.
