Histological examination revealed a demyelinating neuropathy and axon degeneration, and molecular analysis of signaling pathways showed reduced protein kinase B (PKB, AKT) activation in the nerves of Epigen-tg mice, indicating that the muscular phenotype is secondary to PNS demyelination and axon degeneration.
