Surprisingly, the levels of tumor necrosis factor- alpha and interferon (IFN)- gamma , which had been found to be increased in patients with fatal Zaire Ebola virus infection, were not increased in any of the patients with SEBOV infection.
No differences were noted in serum levels of IL-4 and IL-6. mRNA quantitation from blood clots of the same patients showed relatively elevated levels of TNF-alpha and IFN-alpha in samples from EHF patients.
