This study investigated the influence of functional polymorphisms in ERCC1 and XRCC1 genes, the interactions between these polymorphisms as well as the interactions between these polymorphisms and asbestos exposure on MM risk.
Our results support the hypothesis that DNA repair gene polymorphisms, particularly XRCC1Arg399Gln, may modify the response to gemcitabine-platinum combination chemotherapy and, for the first time, show this effect in patients with MM.
