Subsequently, it was demonstrated that overexpression of miR-139-5p in colon cancer cell lines significantly suppressed the cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo.
The functional roles of miR-139-5p in colon cancer were demonstrated by CCK-8 proliferation assay, cell invasion and migration, cell apoptosis and in a KO mouse study. miR-139-5p expression was significantly decreased in cancer tissues compared to normal tissues.
miR-139-5p plays a pivotal role in colon cancer through inhibiting cell proliferation, metastasis, and promoting apoptosis and cell cycle arrest by targeting oncogenic NOTCH1.
