Importantly, by relieving the repression on DNMT3b, the lower expression of miR-203 in CRC caused ABCG2 promoter methylation and remarkable lower ABCG2 expression in colon cancer cell lines and the patient CRC specimens.
We report miR-203 is correlated with Taxol sensitivity: overexpression of miR-203 sensitizes colon cancer cells and the Taxol-resistant cells display downregulated miR-203 compared with Taxol-sensitive cells.
Finally, in situ hybridization showed that miR-203 expression is attenuated in colon tumour tissues compared to normal colon tissues, suggesting that miR-203 could be a potential new prognostic marker and therapeutic target to explore in colon cancer.
