FGF receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a gene that is amplified in human breast cancer, but there have been no definitive studies on its function in mammary tumorigenesis, progression, and metastasis in vivo in spontaneous tumors in mice.
Taken together, these data suggest that AREG and EREG mediate tumorigenic phenotypes by activating EGFR signaling, and that the oncogenic potential of FGFR1 requires EGFR activation to promote mammary tumorigenesis.
