The current research shows that over and above known trophic effects, the combination of GLP-2 and EGF synergistically lengthens the bowel in neonatal piglet models of SBS.
These results suggest that enteral treatment with EGF in pediatric SBS improves nutrient absorption, increases tolerance with enteral feeds, and may improve the infection rate.
