We found no association between the PON1 Q192R and L55M polymorphisms and susceptibility to RA, while PON1 Q192R polymorphism was associated with PON1 activity in RA patients; we found significantly lower PON1 activity in RA patients.Key points• PON1 Q192R polymorphism is associated with PON1 activity in RA patients..• PON1 activity is significantly lower in RA patients..
We found that PON-1-Q192R was associated with severity of RA [remission-to-low and moderate-to-high in dominant Q/Q+Q/R vs. R/R: OR=2.27, p<0.001; codominant Q/Q vs. R/R: OR=1.65, p<0.001 and Q/R vs. R/R: OR=2.12, p=0.003; recessive Q/Q vs. R/R+Q/R: OR=1.79, p=0.032; and allele Q vs. R: OR=1.68, p<0.001] and presence of anti-CCP-antibody (codominant model Q/Q vs. R/R: OR=1.28, p=0.042).
Till now, the relationship between the rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-CCP-2 Ab, anti-oxidant activity and polymorphism of paraoxenase-1 (PON-1) 192 Q/R in patients withRA has not been investigated.
PON-1 activity is impaired in RA in association with the rs662 genotype and anti-HDL antibodies, the latter being recognized as a pivotal player in the link between rs662 and CVD in patients with RA.
