The <i>IL1A</i> rs2856836 T/C SNP was associated with susceptibility to endometriosis and the rs2856836 C allele may increase the risk of endometriosis in Iranian women.
Recently, two small Japanese studies reported eight SNPs (rs6542095, rs11677416, rs3783550, rs3783525, rs3783553, rs2856836, rs1304037 and rs17561) at the IL1A gene locus as suggestively associated with endometriosis risk.
The four common variants (rs17561, rs1304037, rs2856836 and rs3783553) in IL1A were significantly associated with endometriosis (P=0.0024, 0.0024, 0.0014 and 0.0061, respectively).
