Regucalcin (RGN) is a calcium-binding protein underexpressed in human prostate cancer cases, and it has been associated with the suppression of cell proliferation and the regulation of several metabolic pathways.
The loss of regucalcin expression in breast and prostate cancer cases and the regulation of its expression by sex steroid hormones suggest that it may be associated with development and progression of these human tumors.
Overall, our results highlighted the importance of RGN as a regulatory protein in Ca2+-dependent signaling pathways and its deregulation of RGN expression by Ca2+o may contribute for onset and progression of PCa.
