Here we investigated the energy metabolism in NSC-34(G93A) cells and in particular the effect of the mutated SOD1(G93A) protein on the mitochondrial respiratory capacity (complexes I-IV) by high resolution respirometry (HRR) and cytofluorimetry.
When the joint effects were examined, individuals with rs2070424 AA</span> genotype and the highest tertile of plasma copper concentration had a much higher risk of IGR&T2D (OR 5.34, 95% CI 3.48-8.21) than those with rs2070424 GG genotype and the lowest tertile of plasma copper concentrations.
Together, carrying allele G in the single nucleotide polymorphism (rs2070424 A/G) in SOD1, or allele C in the single nucleotide polymorphism (rs4880 T/C) in SOD2, enhances genetic susceptibility to Parkinson's disease.
The Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase +35A/C (rs2234694) variant correlates with altered levels of protein carbonyls and glutathione and associates with severity of COPD in a Tunisian population.
BNIP1 expression was significantly reduced in spinal cord motor neurons from patients with ALS (4 controls: mean age, 60.5 years, mean [SE] value, 3984 [760.8] arbitrary units [AU]; 7 patients with ALS: mean age, 56 years, mean [SE] value, 1999 [274.1] AU; P = .02), in an ALS mouse model (mean [SE] value, 13.75 [0.09] AU for 2 SOD1 WT mice and 11.45 [0.03] AU for 2 SOD1 G93A mice; P = .002) and in brains of patients with PSP (80 controls: 39 females; mean age, 82 years, mean [SE] value, 6.8 [0.2] AU; 84 patients with PSP: 33 females, mean age 74 years, mean [SE] value, 6.8 [0.1] AU; β = -0.19; P = .009) or FTD (11 controls: 4 females; mean age, 67 years; mean [SE] value, 6.74 [0.05] AU; 17 patients with FTD: 10 females; mean age, 69 years; mean [SE] value, 6.53 [0.04] AU; P = .005).
In our previous published study, we have discovered severe bone loss in an ALS mouse model with overexpression of ALS-associated mutation SOD1G93A (G93A).

RESULTS Ovariectomy advanced the onset of disease, down-regulated aromatase and estrogen receptor alpha (ER-a) expression, and inhibited expression of the anti-inflammatory factors arginase-1 and the anti-apoptotic factor B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) in the lumbar spinal cord of hSOD1-G93A transgenic mice.
These data suggest a complex role of SOD1 in different processes leading to complications of liver cirrhosis. rs1041740 might be associated with the development of ascites and possibly plays a role in SBP once ascites has developed.

Although rs3844942 showed no associations with complications of cirrhosis, we observed a significant association between rs1041740 and the presence of ascites and SBP in the discovery cohort of patients with cirrhosis.
SOD1-G93R zebrafish showed decreased embryonic nerve length with increased BMAA dose, a phenotypic change mirrored in 5-month performance measures of weaker swimming and increased fatigability.
Using physiological tests and a biophysics approach based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), we unexpectedly found that SOD1(G93A) ALS mice suffered from severe glucose intolerance, which was counteracted by high intensity swimming but not moderate intensity running exercise.
Identification of L84F mutation with a novel nucleotide change c.255G > T in the superoxide dismutase gene in a North Indian family with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Seven interactions were statistically significant after adjusting for multiple testing (FDR Q-value <0.20); for stage III/IV prostate cancer, these involved intake of β-carotene (GPX1 rs17650792, hOGG1 rs1052133) and heme iron (GPX1 rs1800668 and rs3448), and for stage IV prostate cancer, these involved intake of catechin (SOD2 rs4880) and heme iron (hOGG1 rs1052133, SOD1 rs10432782).

We first identified unique hSOD1(G93A) microglia transcriptomic profile that, in addition to more classical processes such as chemotaxis and immune response, pointed toward the potential involvement of the tumour suppressor gene breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (Brca1).
