Present study shows that 420C/G polymorphism of resistin gene directly correlated to its high circulating level and metabolic risk factors, specifically markers of obesity and atherosclerosis, so it may have an important role in the development of metabolic syndrome and cardio metabolic diseases.
Further investigation of this association as well as of the actual biological roles of RETN in the genesis of human metabolic disorders including DM will be required.
The aims of this study were to identify polymorphisms of RETN that influence plasma resistin concentration and to clarify the relation between plasma resistin level and metabolic disorders in an aged Japanese cohort.
These data suggest a differential role for these two proinflammatory adipokines in linking metabolic diseases to atherosclerosis with visfatin/PBEF/Nampt being more important in patients with type 2 diabetes and resistin in obese but nondiabetic human subjects.
