The overexpression of VEGFR-3 is correlated with a worse prognosis in lung cancer and has been regarded as a rational target for specific drug delivery.
We also examined the combined effects of these drugs on the molecular expression of survivin, matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) to determine the mechanism of action and to explore the potential applications of the new effective drug therapy in lung cancer.
Our previous studies show that activation of the VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 axis promotes cancer metastasis and is associated with clinical progression in patients with lung cancer, indicating that VEGFR-3 is a potential target for cancer therapy.
