In summary, this meta-analysis proved that PON1 rs854560 polymorphism could be used to identify individual with elevated susceptibility to cancer, especially for haematological tumours and breast cancer.
These results indicate that PON1 L55M genetic polymorphisms may be associated with the risk of breast cancer and could potentially serve as useful genetic markers for tumor prognosis in some populations of Chinese women.
However, it was observed a significant association of PON1 rs662 (Q192R) variant genotype (RR) with retinoblastoma (OR = 4.08, 95 % CI 1.13-14.97), whereas the PON1 rs854560 (L55M) polymorphism was not associated with any tumor.
In conclusion, our results suggest that the M allele of L55M polymorphism could be a suitable marker for BC susceptibility and tumor prognosis in Egyptian women.
