Stratification by gender revealed similar results in both subgroup in these genetic models except for recessive model, in which rs12817488 was not significantly associated with PD in male subgroup.
Therefore, our findings support the conclusion that the rs12817488 in CCDC62/HIP1R polymorphism may increase the risk of PD in the Chinese Han population.
In conclusion, our study demonstrated for the first time a significant association between the rs12817488 polymorphism and PD predisposition in a Chinese population with gender variations and provides new insight regarding the variant's protein expression and estrogen-related genetic interaction.
