In this study, we provide in vitro and in vivo characterization of a series of novel peptide growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) agonists, both under nonpathologic conditions and in the context of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced anorexia.
Our results demonstrate that Z-505 ameliorates cisplatin- and 5-FU-induced anorexia through the activation of the ghrelin receptor, GHSR1a, suggesting its usefulness in the preventive treatment of anorexia during chemotherapy.
We therefore hypothesize that patients with cancer anorexia might benefit from treatment with a ghrelin receptor agonist to prevent WL and deterioration in physical functioning.
