This study suggests that SUMO4 c.163 G>A polymorphism is associated with the susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy in north Indian subjects with type 2 diabetes.
The Met55Val polymorphism in the small ubiquitin-like modifier 4 (SUMO4) gene has been associated with susceptibility not only to type 1 diabetes, but also to type 2 diabetes and diabetic nephropathy.
CONCLUSIONS-This study indicates that the SUMO4 gene M55V variant is associated with severity of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.
