Two single- nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CD40L gene, CD40L-726(C/T) and CD40L+220(C/T) were investigated, and the possible association with different clinical sub-phenotypes of severe falciparum malaria were analyzed.
High IgG levels were associated with higher risk of P. falciparum malaria (IRR 1.33-1.66, P = 0.008-0.027), suggesting that they are biomarkers of increased exposure to P. falciparum infections.
The pathogenesis of Plasmodium falciparum malaria involves a complex interplay between parasite adhesion and inflammatory response that includes release of cytokines and activation of the endothelium with accompanying release of Angiopoitin 2 (Ang2) to the plasma.
This study aims: (a) to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of AS + SP treatment for uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Yemen; (b) to investigate the frequency of mutations in Plasmodium falciparum genes associated with resistance to AS (Kelch 13 propeller domain, pfK13) and SP (dihydrofolate reductase, pfdhfr, and dihydropteroate synthase, pfdhps); and (c) to assess the adequacy of this ACT to clear gametocytes.

In the present study, we investigated the association of TIRAP (S180L) polymorphism with susceptibility/resistance to severe P. falciparum malaria in a cohort of adult patients from India.

The FOXO3A variant rs12212067T>G is associated with increased inflammatory responses to Plasmodium falciparum malaria, indicating a role of the FOXO3-dependent pathway in malaria.
Artemisinin-based combinations currently recommended for treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in many countries of sub-Saharan Africa are substrates of CYP enzymes.
Preliminary investigation of the contribution of CYP2A6, CYP2B6, and UGT1A9 polymorphisms on artesunate-mefloquine treatment response in Burmese patients with Plasmodium falciparum malaria.
Characteristic features of Plasmodium falciparum malaria are polyclonal B cell activation and an altered composition of the blood B cell compartment, including expansion of CD21(-)CD27(-) atypical memory B cells.
Since children with malaria often have increased incidence of additional infections, such as bacteremia and HIV-1, we extend our previous findings by investigating COX-2 and PGE2 in children with falciparum malaria and co-infection with either bacteremia or HIV-1.
