Manganese exposure exacerbates progressive motor deficits and neurodegeneration in the MitoPark mouse model of Parkinson's disease: Relevance to gene and environment interactions in metal neurotoxicity.
Further evidence for association of the RGS2 gene with antipsychotic-induced parkinsonism: protective role of a functional polymorphism in the 3'-untranslated region.
Using quantitative proteomics, we have globally profiled ubiquitination in SNpc tissue of a Parkinson's disease transgenic mouse model (A30P*A53 T α-synuclein, hm2α-SYN-39 mouse strain) at pre-symptomatic stage; Our datasets of 3,971 ubiquitination sites in 1,595 proteins provide valuable insight into pre-symptomatic Parkinson's disease.

This case report suggests that cocaine abuse indeed might be linked to secondary Parkinsonism and serves as an example of a potential gene-environmental interaction between the detected LRRK2 risk variant and cocaine abuse.
Studies using the clinical diagnosis of a movement disorders specialist over the course of the disease as a reference have shown that DAT- SPECT is 78-100% sensitive (median, 93%) and 70-100% specific (median, 89%) for the differentiation of neurodegenerative parkinsonian syndromes from symptomatic parkinsonism and other differential diagnoses in clinically unclear cases.
