Eighty-eight MOH patients have been compared with two clinical populations including 99 patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and 91 with PDs using the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure-200 (SWAP-200), a clinician-report tool that assesses both normal and pathological personality.
The aim of this study was to compare the serum levels of lipocalin-type Prostaglandin D2 synthase (L-PGDS), Vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP), apolipoprotein E (APOE) and apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) in MOH patients and healthy individuals, further exploring their relationship with cutaneous pain thresholds (CPTs) in the territories innervated by the trigeminal nerve.

The preliminary data collected using the VAS scale and the MIDAS questionnaire confirm that the neuromuscular cranio-mandibular system can have an important role in the diagnostic process of the MOH and the PIFP, suggesting the usefulness of treatment with an occlusal device, where there is adequate FWS.
The aim of this pilot study was to determine health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with history of medication overuse headache (MOH) after detoxification and a headache-specific inpatient rehabilitation program and to receive necessary information for future prospective studies.HRQoL and headache-related disability were cross-sectionally measured by Short Form 36 (SF-36), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Migraine Disability Score (MIDAS), Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CSQ), and Symptom Checklist 90 revised (SCL-90-R).

When genotype distribution for RAMP1rs7590387 was compared between healthy controls (n = 209) and MOH patients, carriers of rs7590387GG were found at lower risk of developing MOH (OR: 0.43, 95%CI: 0.22-0.85, P = 0.011).
In this association study, we sequenced all exons, intron/exon junctions, and 3'-5'UTR regions of HDAC3 in 23 MOH patients to investigate its role in medication overuse.
In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the role of 14 polymorphisms in 8 candidate genes potentially relevant for drug addiction (OPRM1, DRD2, DBH, COMT, BDNF, SLC6A4, 5HT2A, and SLC1A2) as predictors for detoxification outcome of MOH patients at 2 months of follow-up.
By multivariate logistic stepwise regression analysis, type of migraine, regular and sufficient dietary intake, and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T (rs1801133) and dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) rs6275" genes_norm="1813">C939T (rs6275) polymorphisms were selected as significant factors that contribute independently to the development from migraine to MOH (P < 0.05).
We therefore sought differences in SSEP sensitization and habituation in patients with MOH who underwent angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) I/D polymorphism analysis.
In conclusion, our studydoes not provide evidence that the 5HTT, 5-HT1A, 5HT1B,5HT2A and 5HT6 gene polymorphisms play a role in the genetic predisposition to MOH.

These findings showed an influence of examined BDNF polymorphism in the MOH clinical features, supporting the idea that MOH is a substance abuse disorder.
Our results indicate that genotyping for COMT rs4680 and SLC6A4 STin2 VNTR could be useful for the identification of MOH patients at higher risk of poor prognosis after drug withdrawal.
