Present study aimed to investigate the association of aldose reductase (AKR1B1) gene polymorphism (-106C>T; rs759853) with diabetic retinopathy (DR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients from north India.
The T allele of the AKR1B1 promoter rs759853 variant is also significantly protective against diabetic retinopathy in type 1 diabetes (0.5 [0.35-0.71], P = 1.00 x 10(-4)), regardless of ethnicity.
We investigated the relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and three polymorphisms, C(-106)T in the aldose reductase (ALR2) gene, 4G/5G in the plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) gene and C677T in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene, in 210 Euro-Brazilian type 2 diabetic patients.
