The aim of our study was to evaluate whether any association exists between metabolic syndrome (MS) and ACE I/D and AGT M235T gene polymorphisms in Hungarians as an example of European Caucasian population.
Although the AT1RA1166C polymorphism was not associated with any aspect of the metabolic syndrome examined, there was limited evidence to suggest that the AGT M235T polymorphism may be associated with cholesterol levels.
In adolescents of European origin, hypertension is associated with an increased degree of obesity among other characteristics of the metabolic syndrome; the Trp64Arg variant of the beta3-adrenergic receptor gene may favor the central adiposity gain.
