MiRNA functional analysis in combination with Kaplan-Meier survival analysis suggest that hsa-miR-885-5p could act as a tumor suppressor and should be validated as a potential prognostic biomarker in pancreatic cancer.
Furthermore, the target of miR-885-5p was predicted and confirmed using a luciferase reporter assay. miR-885-5p was demonstrated to be upregulated and SOCS was downregulated in colorectal cancer tissue, and cells. miR-885-5p suppression significantly inhibited tumor cell proliferation and migration, promoted E-cadherin expression, and inhibited the expression levels of N-cadherin, vimentin and Snail.
While PIK3R1, HACE1, miR-139-3p, and miR-885-5p may act as tumor suppressor genes in the studied tumour type, miR-21-3p and miR-525-5p seem to have oncogenic properties.
In conclusion, our findings suggest that miR-885-5p and CIMP status may be useful biomarkers for predicting biological malignancy in patients with rectal carcinoid tumors.
Taken together, these data provide evidence that miR-885-5p has a tumor suppressive role in neuroblastoma interfering with cell cycle progression and cell survival.
