The soluble form of LYVE-1 (sLYVE-1) is produced by ectodomain shedding of LYVE-1 under pathological conditions including cancer and chronic inflammation.
These results indicate that quantitative analysis of lymphangiogenic marker VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 in gastroenteric specimens may be useful in predicting metastasis of gastroenteric cancer to regional lymph nodes, but the role of LYVE-1 in predicting metastasis of gastroenteric cancer requires further analysis.
Immunohistochemical stain showed that LYVE-1 was significantly expressed in cancer tissues (especially in the margin region of cancer), whereas in non-cancer specimens fewer positive stains were revealed.
