Upon stratifying for indoor tanning status, one ANKK1 SNP was positively associated with melanoma among non-tanners, while three DRD2 SNPS were positively associated with melanoma among tanners or non-tanners, depending on the SNP.
TPARM as well as NCAM1 and DRD2 were predicted to be candidate tumor suppressor genes within the commonly deleted region of malignant melanoma on 11q23.1-q23.2 (between microsatellite markers D11S1347 and D11S4122).
Although IBF had high dopamine D2 receptor affinity, its ability to detect melanoma metastases is more likely explained by low affinity binding to melanin than by the presence of dopamine receptors.
